I made it!... I'm in line waiting for my turn to buy stamps, I'm sending a few envelopes to clients and some post cards to some friends, I though I was not going to make it, but I did!



...Now need to wait couple of days until they receive their post cards, some of you may ask: Why not sending an email or a ecard?, I prefer the old way, don't get happy everytime you receive a letter or post card from a distant friend?



That is why!

Printing today's pictures from Calico

Ok, We got home after a very long day at Calico Ghost Town, few days ago found my Canon mini260 4X6" Phoyo printer, I bought it 3 yrs ago and rarely use it. Today I decided to make some home made prints, (well not really home made but u got the idea), the photo lab around my place is like 19 cents per photo and using my Canon Mini260 is like 49 cents or more depending on the image (the darker the image -if it was taken at night- the more ink will use).



Printed over 30 photographs, mostly about Us, the ones about Calico I need to select them and work a bit on every image, will post them soon.



Ok, enough with photography today!

Calico Bottle House

This is a shot of the Bottle House, one of the miners didn't have enough money to build or buy a house, instead he was a very happy customer and frecuently he was seen at the cantina, then He saved enough bottles and started building his home, with dozens of empty bottles, you can see the shape of a start in four sides of the house.

Loading Film on my FishEye2

I made a quick stop to buy new film, I'm taking my FishEye2 Lomo camera to Calico, I'm dying to capture a few 180 degrees shots.



Last time I shot couple of panoramas using my tripod and they came out great, now I'm going to play with some wide angle shoots.

Tomorrow Photowalk in Calico Ghost Town

Couple of years ago, my friends told me about this cool place, a Ghost Town near barstow (between Los Angeles and Las Vegas), I visited Calico 3 yrs ago is a small town, if you are on your way to Vegas or coming from Vegas to Los Angeles, you MUST visit this place...



Tomorrow I'll be going with my friends, I'm bringing my photogear, my tripod and my gisteq phototrackr to geaotag every image I take, I'll make sure to shoot in raw, last time didn't bring spare memory cards and shot in JPG.

Luis Miguel in Concert at The Nokia Live Theater

Last night my assignment was covering the Luis Miguel Concert at the Nokia Live Theater for one of my clients, a well known newspaper from Mexico (Reforma), they got me the credentials and everything, I thought they were going to request a ticket to watch the show but not.. just a photo pass, usually at concerts we are allow to shoot the first two songs but when I got to the venue they told us that only were allow to shot the first song and not from the pit.. instead the told us to shoot far far away.. next to the sound system.. that's like 300 ft from the stage, I shot racked out to 200mm.



After the 4 minutes got great shoots... right after that the PR scorted us to the exit.



It was ok I guess.. a bit crowded, not big fan of Luis Miguel but reminded me a few songs that I liked when I was in highschool, anyway, hopefully I'll get to see the concert in a near future.

We are inside the Nokia Theater, waiting for the show to start, photographers are ready, house is almost full, we are now waiting next to the sound system, we are like 300 ft from the stage, everybody bring a 400, 500 and 600mm glass, I'll be shooting w my 200. Hopefully the stage will be well lit to get great shots!

I walked by the Hollywood shopping center (H & H), and right in front of the El Capitan Theater some guys are building a new garden, lawn kind of thing, it says LA, I guess it will be a small set for an upcoming movie premiere.

Futbol Fiesta at The Coliseum

I'm already at the Coliseum, the Futbol Fiesta has started near the Coliseum, diferent vendors are giving away stuff, gifts, t-shirts, caps and many many things. It's pretty cool actually, I'm going to get a couple of shoots before getting into the stadium for the Mexico vs Chile game.

Well the meeting I had at the Theater went great, got booked for a couple of events the following weeks, I'm now near the coliseum, found an starbucks and I'm now editing while enjoying an Orange-Mango-Banana smoothie... My Canon Speedlite 580EXII Flash just died!

I'm sad, dissapointed and a bit frustrated here is the reason why, Last saturday was working in a private party when I used my 5 months old Canon Speedlite 580EXII Flash, fire a couple of shoots using as a master device triggering my slave 2 years old Canon 580EX flash, everything was working perfectly, I've been using the 580EXII as my primary flash since I buy it and at today's assigment it just didn't work, I did shake it a bit and noticed that a very small part was loose with in the flash, that is strange because I do not remember the flash being dropped, in fact I usually take good care of my photo gear, anyway, I am going to have to take it to the repair shop and wait two weeks to have it fixed. That's not too bad, I rather spend $170.00 on repair that getting a new one for almost $500.00



...Now back to edit and recharging batteries for tomorrow's assigment at the Coliseum.

Editing at the Home Depot Center Parking Lot

I'm done with the assigment, it went great, had a good time with Zague and the Allstate crew, took nearly 400 photographs, I'm now editing at the parking lot, my friend Jose from Taylor is waiting to get all the images from tonight's assigment, right after this I'll be heading home to edit more pending photos from previous events.

I'm at the Car Wash, and saw these palm trees standing right in fron of me, all straight, reminded me as if they were soldiers or guardians. I know, waiting for your car at the car wash could be sometimes a boring experience, but in my case is not, having a cellphone camera with internet access may be very entertaining.

A Happy Little Tree

I just saw rthis guy on TV, when I was like 10 yo, I used to watch this guy's show, It was amazing how He created beautiful landscapes, waterfalls and all those things. Coupoe of years later I learned how to paint, at least spray paint. It was good to see the show again.

Community Computer Crashed?

Hello Ya'll,

It's sunday and I was changing channels and when I was at channel 3, saw this pop up nessage right on the screen, aparently the computer that is streaming city of upland messages needed an update, but since it is sunday around 8 am, no one is near to fix it, at least not remotely.



I guess they usually show a powerpoint presentation, but this time the program did not load.

Tonight's assigment is a private party

Received an email last night, one of my clients is having a private event and He asked me if I was available to do a couple of shots of his family and friends, I said yes and I'm now at the Marriot Hotel in Woodland Hills having fun... I wish there were more assigments like the one I'm doing.



I didn't bring my studio lights since the place is too crowded, I didnkt want to leave my studio lights unattended, instead I'm shooting with two speedlite flashes (master/slave) the pics are coming out great.



...Now back to shooting!

Jc Olivera's LALIFF 08 House Photographer badge.

For 3rd consecutive year I'm the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival house photographer, meaning that I get all access to any event related at the festival, that may sound cool, BUT is really hard being all day at the festival when I spend most of the day waiting for celebs and talent to walk the red carpets.



I'm having fun this yeay but I'm extremelly tired by now and still two more days to the closing night gala.

Kids playing at Universal Studios

Yesterday spent the afternoon at Universal Studios, I shoot a behind the scenes with some actors, started my day pretty early had a photosession in Beverly Hills, talent was terrific!



I was taking a break from the assigment and saw this kids playoing by soke sort of fountain, I really wanted to join them, but with all the equipment I had in my arms, I just could't.

La Causa de trafico en el 101 N

Es normal al medio dia que haya trafico en las autopistas de Los Angeles, pero el día de hoy a alguién se le paso amarrar los sacos de lo que parece ser cal, y se derramaron varios sacos en la autopista 101 N a la altura de la salida de Highland, las patrullas cerraron dos carriles y el trafico estaba extendido más allá del centro de Los Ángeles.



Ahora a ver quién le toca limpiar el desmadrito que otros hicieron.

... Still at the press conference, had to make a quick stop at the gents restroom, and I noticed that has a nice decoration, it also has a mini screen tv, in case you do not want to miss any part of the event, it even has candies.

The Fox Fall Eco-Casino Arrivals Gallery's done!

I'm finally DONE, after many hrs of editing was able to transmit without interruptions every single photo to the agency, and of course they have the gallery up and available to the Entertaiment editors, in a few hrs they will see the gallery and hopefully they'll pick some of shots for their next issue. ;)

¡El León no es como lo pintan!

Llevo mas de 20 mins esperando a que el dichoso león despierte y nada, esta super jetón, la leona?, bien gracias, no ha salido, lo único que hace el león es espantarse los insectos que pululan junto a él.



Mi conclusión es: ¡que el león no es como lo pintan!

Sunset from the Griffith Observatory

We spent the afternoon at the Renowed Griffith Observatory wich is located few minutes from downtown LA. It offers a great view of Los Angeles Area, you could see in clear days as far as Long Beach, Malibu Mountains and the beach.

Visita al Mercadito Buenos Aires!

Vine hace menos de 2 semanas que vine al Mercado Buenos Aires y me refiné una Entraña en termino medio, esta vez traje a mi jefa, que ya desde hace mucho tiempo le había platicado de lo maravilloso que es este lugar. Ya le mostré el menu y en espera que nos traigan una Entraña Gauchesca, un Churrasco, y unas empanadas para botanear!

El Ultimo Show de Animales

Ya recorrimos todo el dichoso Zoologico, desde las girafas hasta los pandas, desde las hienas hasta la casa de los reptiles, hemos caminado y recorrido el parque por horas, justo ahora nos sentamos a ver el ultimo show de animales y de ahi a echar un rol por el malecon y de ahi a casa.

Una pausa para descanzar en el Zoo

El dia esta agradable aqui en el Zoologico de San Diego, hemos recorrido en autobus alrededor del parque, ya viajamos en el teleferico, vimos los Osos Polares, las Zebras, Flamingos, Aguilas y los changos...



Paramos a descanzar para seguir con el recorrido.

Pozoleando en Chulavista

Que mas puede uno pedir de los amigos?, hace 2 años mis amigos me trajeron a la 'Pozoleria María' que está en Chulavista, cada vez que visito San Diego y se puede trato de venir, ahora vengo con mi familia y andamos Pozoleando en este lunes de "Labor Day".



De aquí nos vamos al Zoologico de San Diego a continuar el día.
